Staying on top of your game requires dedication. Whether you watched the Olympic time trial live, saw the highlights or read about her in the Wall Street Journal or USA today–Idaho celebrates the success of our own Kristin Armstrong. Kristin Is a role model for children, teachers, health care/wellness professionals and for each of us. Kristin remains committed to the Y and now is making a difference in our community in her role at St Luke’s. I understand she does not like to lose, even at dominoes, and she continues to demonstrate the work ethic and passion it takes to compete at the highest level.
Could anyone really win 21 gold medals in an Olympic career? Yes he did. Will he win a few more? Highly likely. He actually won number 22 after this was originally written. Michael Phelps is a phenomenal athlete. More importantly it appears he has found a new focus and maturity. Michael continues to prove himself in the pool and “kept it classy” when confronted by his rival. It is great when role models exceed our high expectations.
There are so many exceptional Olympic stories about Athletes and the obstacles they have overcome. Simone Biles and her adoptive parents encouraging the world to provide help and hope for a child. For a few short weeks much of the world puts their differences aside and celebrate the sacrifice of our athletes regardless of their country. Sportsmanship is clearly on display and is very encouraging for our future.
58 is very good golf score. Last week end forty something professional golfer Jim Furyk shot the lowest score ever recorded in a PGA event. Jim has had a successful career notwithstanding the most unusual swing on tour. Jim is a class act and I offer him a tip of the cap for keeping us young.
Not every athlete reaches their goal or earns a medal. I applaud those “who do not let a win go to their head or a loss to their heart.”
Cheers to those who compete at all levels.
Enjoy the week end. Mike
