Arrived in McCall in time for an early summer thunder storm – threatening black clouds swirling around the Valley, intermittent sunshine, gusty winds, and heavy rain with a few hail stones. The temperature dropped noticeably and our poor dog MMMa was hiding under the table. The calm before and after the storm is remarkable. I especially enjoy the green forest glow when the sun returns. I have described the glowing as iridescence. The term, also known as goniochromism, refers to certain surfaces that appear to gradually change color as the angle of illumination is altered. Easy examples are bubbles, butterfly wings and seashells. So I have to change my tune on the forest color as it is probably not iridescent. It seems ok to just say that you have to be there to see and appreciate the beauty of nature.
My Uncle Dick had a unique sense of humor and it is part of his lasting memory. Each time any Mooney family member hears a pun or play on words we think of the many shaggy dog stories told by Unc—as everyone called him. This week my younger brother Jeff sent along several lists of jokes that fit the profile. I will not share the entire list but as the world needs a sense of humor now more than ever I hope these take your mind off pressing personal and world pressures.
Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The ceremony wasn’t much but the “reception” was excellent…
Doc, I can’t stop singing the “Green Green Grass of Home”- sounds like Tom Jones Syndrome. Is that common? “Well, It’s Not Unusual”…
Two explorers sitting in a kayak were very chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Not surprisingly it sank, proving once again that “you can’t have your kayak and heat it too”…
These should be followed with a rim shot so you know now is the time to laugh out loud.
Share a smile with a friend or stranger this week end. Mike
