Clio made a special trip down our street to visit me, her mother told her about Boompa’s colonoscopy, not sure how that conversation was managed but when I opened the door she said with a true look of concern and angst—“is your butt ok”? What is wrong with your “bum”? I assured her my derrière was just fine but that did not comfort her, only a careful poke and pat convinced her to go on to other subjects. It was nice to have a genuine show of anxiety from a 3 year old. Glad I was there for the interrogation.
My specialist is an exceptional Dr., has a sense of humor, is a long time friend of mine and coincidentally In private conversation calls himself a “butt” doctor. Turns out Clio’s direct question was perfect. There is a legend that my Dr. wrote a note after a clean examination with a sharpie on a rear end that read “perfect a…hole.” I assure you the short memo was well received by the long time patient and friend. Isn’t is great when the tension is eased by a bit of humor or whimsy, even if you end up being the “butt” of the joke.
This topic made me think about Fearless leader, who you may have noticed, I have not mentioned in a while. The man is a threat to our democracy, the rule of law, truth, trust, morality, and common sense. I found it interesting that one half of 1% of the U S. Population has Narcissistic Personality Disorder and about 75% of those people are male. This disorder is characterized by a long term pattern of exaggerated feelings of self importance, an excessive need for admiration, and a lack of empathy toward other people. People with NPD often spend a lot of time thinking about achieving power and success, or on their own appearance. They typically take advantage of those around them. In Greek mythology, Narcissus, was a hunter who found himself so beautiful that he became fixated by his own reflection in a pool. His fixation led to his inability to do anything else and to his ultimate demise. Do these behaviors remind you of anyone? I suggest a fitting demise is best achieved with our votes.
It is Decoration Day on Monday. It is now called Memorial Day and is observed on the final Monday each May. It is a somber day honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U. S. Military. I am going to quote President Obama because he so irritates our current leader, “ our nation owes a debt to its fallen heroes that we can never fully repay, but we can honor their sacrifice.” To conclude, Franklin D Roosevelt reminded us “Those who have enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy forget in time that men have died to win them.”
Enjoy the long week end and keep each other safe. Mike
