As our Fearless leader quite obviously read a speech extolling his signing of the Great American Outdoors Act he came across a curious word. Yosemite or yo-semites as he stutteringly uttered twice, along with the intended visual grandeur envisioned by the writers of Old Faithful erupting, the Grand Canyon, the sequoias which certainly inspires young American’s love of country. “…every American truly has a duty to preserve this wondrous inheritance” odd thought from a leader who has ignored climate change concerns as well as aggressively rolled back protections of our air, water, and land. Not likely a change of heart, just an excellent photo op for Fearless.
Back to the curious word, I am starting to feel a bit sorry for Fearless as he must have missed an important part of his childhood. In May of 1945, Bugs Bunny introduced a new adversary, Yosemite Sam to add variety to Bug’s conflicts with Elmer Fudd. Sam is depicted as an extremely aggressive gunslinging prospector, outlaw, pirate or cowboy with a hair-trigger temper, with an intense hatred of rabbits. Cartoonist Fritz Freleng “compacted into a tiny body and 11 gallon hat the largest voice and the largest ego “north, south, east aaaand west of the Pecos.” Sam continues to appear up to today in the Bugs Bunny features, although not always as Yosemite it is clearly his alter ego, interestingly the in the most recent episodes the shotgun and dual pistols have been removed from Elmer Fudd and Yosemite. In 2019, 4.5 million people visited Yosemite National Park, I am willing to bet Fearless has not experienced this American Treasure as it is not near one of his properties or a golf course.
To dig up a bit of old news, it is surprising a “stable genius” cannot pronounce a common name when he can clearly remember the sequence, “person, woman, man, camera, tv.” I guess it can be explained by his recent quote about the deaths from COVid 19–“it is what it is.” Whether it is his “attack” description of a Lebanon disaster, or his refusal to recognize John Lewis for the legacy of his life, or his desire to have the British Open at his golf course, or reopen schools during a pandemic, cease the Census, eliminate the Post Office, retweet the wacky Houston Doctor’s hydroxychloroquine cure claims, or confuse the public on mail-in ballots, Fearless is transparent – this is just about him and his re- election. Let’s not let that happen.
Our country is on a slippery slope. I am Biden my time until we can “build back better.” Mike
