I read with amazement and great interest an article from Refinery29. I am looking forward to Halloween this year with all of the necessary precautions and creativity to entertain the kids and keep everyone safe. It is possible those who think mask wearing is an affront to their personal freedom can join those of us who understand its importance for one day. The article discusses the astrological power created by the convergence of the second full Moon in October on the anniversary of the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain.  Samhain celebrated the harvest and ushered in the “dark half of the year.” Pope Gregory III designated Nov 1 as a time to honor all saints, and soon that day incorporated traditions from the original Celtic celebration. The moon will not be blue, but you will have to wait until August 31, 2023 to enjoy it again.  Back to the article, “full moons have always been seen as moments in time in which the astrological energy comes to a climax”. There is more detail about the Sun being in Scorpio, the effect of Uranus on our intuitive self and our own fear and anxiety. Fortunately the full moon is ruled by Venus, which due to its current home sign in Libra, “we can trust that some serious magic will show up for us during this time.” Not to worry if things don’t seem like they are going our way just yet, but “They will get there.”

What things do we want to go our way? We need, desperately need, new leadership in our country. I will use my one wish for Harris/Biden being elected in a runaway. I think we could use some magic to unify our country and a common goal has done the trick in the past. What we are living through now is no treat.  There is no other fact based conclusion possible—wearing a mask, social distancing, and hand hygiene protect our friends and loved ones. We need a spell to protect the affordable care act and the provisions that provide for insurability in spite of pre existing conditions.  The Lorax is about to be introduced into the Alaska Tongass National Forest under a new rule from our Fearless super spreader – yes, log old growth forests and build roads on this pristine 16.7 million acres. It is not magical but scientific fact “while tropical rainforests are the lungs of the planet, the Tongass is the lungs of North America.”  I hope Venus does not let us down, because it will take a lot of superhuman and supernatural power to reunite our country and the children separated from their families at our borders, assure our dreamers that America is the Beacon of hope for the world, and realize our founder’s vision that all of us are created equal and regain our reputation around the world.

I am reminded that we all must vote. Hank, my wise 6 year old grandson, has learned to properly pronounce Nechochea from the sign in our yard.  Lachiondo is another excellent name that Hank can spell, she is an incumbent candidate for the Ada County Commission. Diana has distinguished herself in her two years on the commission and in her Board duties at Central District Health Department. New leadership can be magical.

Happy Halloween and Stay safe.   Mike
