Hank and I have invested quite a bit of time on the chairlifts at Brundage. When we are not talking about what would happen if we fell off the chair at the apex, or commenting on those skiing below us, I like to ask him math related questions. What is 3 times your current age? Hank quickly said 21. I asked, how old will I be at 3 times my current age, he quickly responded with a sly smile, you will be dead! Very accurate Hank, but if I am not deceased how old will I be—ok 210. I am always “yanking his chain” so I enjoyed his clever answer.
Inauguration Day was a welcome relief for so many Americans. 1-20-2021 was the first of 10 consecutive palindrome dates, which are dates that read the same forward as backwards. This was the first Inauguration to occur on a palindrome date and none of us will be around to witness the next Inaugural palindrome date which will happen on January 20, 3021. On Thursday at 9:21 pm, it was also a unique date. The 21st day, of the 21st year, of the 21st century it will be the 21st hour and the 21st minute. I always think of 21 as a lucky number and the first few days of the new administration is supporting that superstition. Inspiring new leadership to face the challenges of today and tomorrow. They came prepared to make necessary sweeping change on day one with an integrated and diverse team of ethical, experienced professionals committed to our country.
I hope you got to watch the Inauguration ceremony. The swearing in of our first female Vice President was emotional and history making. The President delivered a speech intended to unify, give clear direction, set expectations for transparency going forward, without political purpose or rhetoric. It was so refreshing, I am sure much of our country gave a collective sigh of relief for leadership committed to serve our people. If you missed the 22 year old Inaugural poet laureate, Amanda Gorman, her poem, “The Hill We Climb” is remarkable. I hope all American’s can understand her powerful words and hope for the future of our country.
The Celebrate America road show hosted by Tom Hanks was uplifting. Stories from around our country of exceptional and selfless commitment from teachers, health care and front line workers were interspersed with upbeat musical performance from an A list of celebrities. I enjoyed Bon Jovi, Demi Lovato, Black Pumas, Bruce Springsteen, Pass the Mic, and the Katy Perry grand finale set in front of the Washington monument with an amazing fire works display. It was joyous.
Please consider a moment of silence for Hank Aaron, he is in the Hall of Fame for his baseball accomplishment. Hank could be in the Hall of Fame for Exceptional individuals. May he Rest In Peace.
Stay safe and keep on wearing those masks, the vaccine is on its way. Mike
