Miss Margie Marie, my grand daughter spent last week end with us at the beach in McCall. Margie is growing up, last year she feared the waves coming in from the lake and no way had an interest in a ride in the boat. This year, you can see the expression on her face as she drives the boat and beseeches me to go faster. She does prefer to steer in tight left turns and it takes a bit of counter force from Boompa to keep us from swamping the boat. I loved the reckless abandon of her driving and mostly the wind in her hair as she took control of her emotions. I hope you find something this week that sets your imagination or sense of adventure free, if not, you can live vicariously through Miss Margie.
I kept hearing wind songs in my mind as I watched Margie. The melody of the Christopher Cross classic, Ride like the Wind, seemed right. After a review of the lyrics it is about a convicted criminal trying desperately to make it the border of Mexico. The freedom he desires is fleeting and likely not deserved.
I moved on to the Mandy Moore song, “Wind in my Hair” from the animated movie Tangled. This song is uplifting and fits with Margie’s elation.
“Seems like I have spent my whole life hoping,
Dreaming of things I have never tried
Tangled in knots just waiting to shine….
Everything life oughta be
It is all gonna happen to me out there,
And I will find it, I swear
With the wind in my hair…..
Plenty of mysteries to unravel
Tons of mistakes to not regret…
I have a smile on my face
And I am walking on air..
The song is uplifting and carries the joy of hope and a future without limits.
If you are a bit older, you may share my interest in the classic Bob Dylan song, “blowin in the wind”. The song poses a number of rhetorical questions about peace, war, and freedom. The answer to the questions is blowing in the wind, which has been described as “Impenetrably ambiguous, either the answer is so obvious it is right in your face, or the answer is as intangible as the wind.”
I could conclude with the Three Dog Night classic, “Joy to the World” but I fear the bullfrog may be a jump to far for this message. I wish you a bit of joy for the week end.
