I hope you have had a chance to watch the Ted Lasso series. Ted was a football coach in the mid west with one very minor conference championship to his credit. Ted is hired to be the football coach of a team in England that plays football only it is not the American version. Ted and his assistant coach are not welcome with open arms as he knows nothing about soccer or the rules. He is an imaginative leader, eternal optimist, and possesses unique interpersonal skills. The boys at the local pub call him Wanger to his face, in fact, in the first game the entire fan base is yelling the insult. The term is purely English in its derivation and it refers to “a contemptible person, usually vulgar, a very stupid or unpleasant person, or on a kinder note, an idiot or fool—a dolt.” It takes Ted some time to turn around the abuse and earn the respect of his owner, team, the reporters and the boys at the Pub.

I called it a series because I was not quite sure what to call the made for TV episodes. The show has won many awards and after watching season one, Karen and I are hooked and well into season two. The experts say Ted Lasso is difficult to genre define. “It’s a comedy, a heartfelt drama, an office politics show, it has sports, romance, and friendship. Everyone watching it will find themes they like, it is the kind of show we can all sit down and enjoy together.” I won’t ruin any of the rest of the story line, I hope you get hooked on this excellent show and can overlook the frequent use of common swear words. Guaranteed to take your mind off your concerns for a while.

Speaking of Wanker’s, I watched the latest episode of The January Sixth docudrama. I was already well convinced that our former President is a dangerous soul. The testimony of his own people verify our worst fears, there were no limits to the extreme’s attempted to prevent the peaceful transfer of power. I admired those many staffers who stepped up to tell the truth in spite of apparent threats and intimidation. I appreciate those who resigned in response to Fearless Leaders refusal to act to protect The Capital, the Legislators, and his own Vice President. History may look more favorably at those who stayed on in the White House to push for the Constitutional peaceful transfer of power and protect the country from its own President. What I will never fully comprehend is the motivation of the Republican base to continue to support the former  POTUS in the “big lie”.

I want to say the Idaho Republican Party is different—but it is not. You name it and it is in vogue in the party today; the big lie, Critical Race Theory, paranoia over cross over voters, no exceptions in our abortion ban for rape and incest, repealing the 16th amendment…. Are a few of the planks in the new platform.  All of the incumbent members of party leadership were ousted at the recent convention. Scarier, Representative Moon, was chosen as the leader of the Party.  KTVB reported that her acceptance speech warned with all the population moving in “….the Democrats are coming at us with full force, that we have our barriers up, our guns loaded and ready to keep this state free. I want to believe traditional Republican ideals and policies will return from the current Moon orbit.

Don’t let the Wankers get you down. Enjoy the week end.  Mike
