It was 106 in the Treasure Valley on Wednesday and one article claims Death Valley has received more rain this summer than Boise. It seems most of our citizens finally grasp that the risks to our civilization from global warming are real. The scientists have warned us for many years that burning fossil fuels is a major part of the emission problem in the world. The United States still creates more greenhouse gas than any other country. A heart felt thank you to the Democrats in Congress who finally found a way to invest in the future of the planet. It is late in the game and the commitment is small but it is said the direction and impacts can help us make meaningful progress. Will this be inflationary? Informed people should not care, our future hangs in the balance and more critically the future of our children and grandchildren, higher temperatures will stress or collapse the eco systems that make life valuable and possible.
My daughters and their spouses spent three days in the White Cloud range on a camping trip to celebrate my son-in-law’s birthday. Hike 7 challenging miles to the Chamberlain basin from the trail head and renew your appreciation and respect for nature or live vicariously. Although the fabled Golden Trout was not caught and no mountain goats were sighted, the picture from their trip make it clear why Governor Cecil Andrus worked so hard to protect the wilderness for future generations.
I was greeted on my early morning walk with the distinctive hoo-hooing of the owls, reassuring that our climate fiasco has not yet driven them away. I saw a great set of pictures of baby owls sleeping on their stomachs this week. The reason made me think of the great Orange Liar, the owls must lay on their belly because the very large head cannot be supported by their body. They lay with their head to the side so that their airway stays open and they can breathe. I am now certain based on this knowledge that the inflated size of the head of #45 must dictate that he sleep on his very round belly. The owls look cute! I did not see a bat on my pre dawn walk but a recent meme on Twitter made me laugh, “Bats now use the term, Trumpshit crazy.” Thanks to the DOJ and FBI for following the clear paper trail, none of us are above the law.
Great news for Public Education in Idaho, adding $330 million annually from the sales tax to the school system. An additional $80 million is committed to a new fund for in-demand careers across our technical programs, community or four year schools. Thanks to Governor LIttle for the leadership on this issue.
Please vote on the sixth for the enlightened Boise City School Board candidates!
Enjoy a fine week end. Mike
