I told Karen I watched a portion of the first Republican Presidential debate. I will not repeat her reply. I wanted to get a picture of those who have risen to the top of that Party. I want to hear what they propose if elected. I have to admit, I would likely not have watched if the Party leader were on the panel, he finds it virtually impossible to utilize any facts in his comments.  I have since read multiple reviews of the debate including rankings of who had the best night. It was my considered opinion that winning the chaotic discussion is not a badge of honor.

I must say that Vivek was the most memorable. The man is just obnoxious in my view and dangerous in the worst case.  A person who says that Climate Change is a Hoax, infers there were Government agents on the 911 flights, wants to eliminate the FBI, IRS, militarily defend our southern border, give Russia part of Ukraine and believes 45 was the best President in recent memory, is just plain frightening.

Woke-ness as an issue seems to have taken a back seat for now. Don’t get fooled, the culture war will be coming back as candidate’s like DeSantis do their best to rewrite history and instill a sense of fear in anyone with an alternative life style.  We must be aware of the efforts to replace our bedrock public education systems with vouchers.  Women’s health decisions are at further risk with this Party.

I was pretty bored by most of the interaction, fearful of some, and uplifted by none of the candidates. Gloom and dome are the order of the day in that group. I would think the leading candidate being arrested and earning a mug shot would dampen the desire to follow in his footsteps.

I can’t bring myself to watch any more of the debates but I am very motivated to make sure the Democrats, with admitted flaws, stay in power. A vision of a better future and stated policies to get us there are necessary. Biden has a proven track record and his leadership and sense of optimism never gets “old”.

The picture of the kids going back to public school is a reminder to all of us why comprehensive public education is the key to our future.

The facts matter, please do not be fooled.   Mike
