I had a very long list of adjectives that must proceed the Orange Wanker’s Big Ugly Bill and his destructive band of thugs. It is challenging to keep up with the volume of atrocities being committed in the name of MAGA. The Bill as modified and supported by all four members of Idaho’s delegation will be signed in law on a sacred day in our history. Just a few highlights, $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid with Congressional Budget office estimating up to 17 million Americans will lose coverage by 2034. $186 billion in cuts to food assistance for low-income families with estimated over 5 million Americans without assistance or severe reductions. A late add on, the first ever national private school-voucher scheme will cost tens of billions.
Are we making all of these cuts to balance the budget. No, we are extending previous tax cuts that unquestionably favor the wealthiest of our citizens. The Institution of Taxation and Economic Policy calculate that the top 1% of earners will receive an average tax cut of $66K per year. The cuts to the benefits noted for low income families will be far greater than any tax savings. In spite of the devastation to our low and moderate income families, this bill will add $3 Trillion more or less to the National debt. The Bill also raises the debt ceiling by $5 Trillion, just in case—I guess.
The dramatic impacts to Idahoans should have been sufficient to keep Republicans from signing on and making up reasons it is the right thing to do. Idaho Not for Profits are an important part of the safety net created to serve our communities. We have already heard about nearly a $1 million dollars in lost support for our food banks. In a recent review of not for profit tax filings for Idaho charitable entities, 477 receive Government grants totaling $643 million. Startlingly, 60 of those would be out of operating funds within 90 days and 43% in less than a year without their Government funding. The Idaho Nonprofit Center is advising its over 9000 registered member organizations to keep close accounting of the changes to funding they will experience.
I will stop now on the travesty that is the Big Bad Bill. I learned today that the United States has ceased to supply Ukraine with weapons promised and funded. The Orange Wanker failed to tell the G7 participants as well as not mentioning it to our NATO allies. In the same vein, #47 has lifted sanctions on some Russian banks. As the world order is undermined by our Wanna be King, he has pledged allegiance to Putin. How can our Legislative representatives stand by and allow this to happen? Our chance is coming to vote them out—it cannot happen too soon.
The Declaration of Independence of our Country was signed on July 4, 1776. We celebrate the day and the Ideal’s on which the United States was formed. “We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal… and endowed with certain inalienable rights—the enjoyment of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness…”
The Constitution was ratified in 1788 and clearly lays out the three equal branches of Government. I believe the majority of American’s do not want to go back to rule by a King. Celebrate the 4th and please commit to protecting our democracy in any peaceable way you can. Mike
