Anyone hooked on a wordle game a day?  I would like to think that the creator considers that I am a good player and continues to ramp up the difficulty. The word Wednesday was kifer, reached by a process of elimination on the fourth try— not by great intellect The drink is called the “champagne of the dairy world” due to its complex flavor profile and slightly effervescent and alcoholic attributes. Sounds yummy, a fermented milk beverage with its origin in the Caucasus. Proving my escalation theory,  Thursday’s  word was knell, appropriate as our democracy faces extinction, is the sound of a bell tolling solemnly for death or a funeral.

I spent a bit of time this week considering myths, truth, lies and misinformation. Just recalling the non sense of the Orange Wanker gave me plenty of examples. You know the Haitian immigrants are eating cats and dogs in Springfield. Obama is not a citizen of the United States. He deserve a Noble Peace Prize. Tariff’s are not a tax on American’s. The January 6th insurrectionist’s are heroes and Patriots. Windmills cause cancer and kill whales.  No global warming. So many things are obviously bullsh@t, to use his own words about the Epstein Files.  I am still amazed at the people who accept or put their heads in the sand about the inevitable outcome of #47 going unchecked and believing anything he utters.

We all know that the Ostrich has a very unusual defense mechanism when threatened. Yes—the head in the sand myth. Well it turns out the bird does put it head as low as possible  not to ignore danger but to hide from predators. The flightless bird is largely found in Africa. They are long distance runners averaging 34 miles per hour, if frightened they can run at speeds up to 60 mph. The ostrich is the fastest bipedal animal and second fastest land creature behind only the cheetah. The bird can be up to 9 feet tall while weighing up to 290 pounds.Their height allows them to see over the very tall grasses but also makes them easily visible for predators. You would duck to as a way to preserve your life. This powerful bird is territorial and very dangerous, their kick can be lethal to humans.  Far from timid, they are formidable.

To close with the myth of Bocca Della Verita literally —the “Mouth of Truth” is an ancient Roman marble mask. The mask is nearly 6 feet in diameter.  The legend has it that it will bite the hand of anyone who lies while their hand in its mouth. The story goes that women, fearing they were being cheated on would ask husbands to take the Bocca test. I suppose it could work either way but I am thinking we need such a way to fact check the Orange Cockwomble.

If you are looking for a great science fiction novel to take your mind off current affairs.  I recommend “Hail Mary”, Karen got me started listening and I can hardly stand to hit the pause button.

Enjoy the week end, rest up, and please join the fight for our democracy on Monday.   Mike
