I remain very manic about the current state of our Union. I decided to write a letter to our Senators and the one Congressman for who I have some level of respect. You will find that letter as a part of the Friday message. Not manically deranged like the Orange Wanker but manic with energy and consternation.
At the same time, I am suffering through my first winter cold, it lingers on and is irritating and sleep depriving. On top of that I had a minor MOH’s surgery that resulted in a crater that will heal over the next month. So, feeling a bit sorry for myself I suppose. The Warren Zevon song, sung by Linda Ronstadt in l977 came to mind. Zevon wrote about difficult relationships and this song goes much deeper than my angst over my insignificant health issues. It is worth a listen, her singing is amazing and the band is high quality. All you u tube folks know how to find that song.
So with that, here is the letter Karen and I mailed to the three who are supposed to be representing us in Washington D.C. –
Senator Risch, Crapo and Congressman Simpson
“I was amazed to see all of you find fault with the new Marijuana proclamation. Do you realize that there are far more pressing issues in your State and the Nation
You have stood by silently as your President has blatantly switched our support to Russia. I don’t give a care what Biden did or did not do, so spare me that non sense. The United States has walked away from Ukraine, the EU, NATO, USAid, Education, Science, statistically accurate data, women’s health, public health, climate reality….and so much more. Not a word from any of you!
We are now at “war” with Venezuela, sounds like you were in the dark on that breach of Presidential authority. Will you have anything to say as we threaten Mexico, Greenland, Cuba or Canada?
What do you think about your constituents health insurance costs? In real time now, the loss of ACA subsidies assure many fewer insured in Idaho. Medicaid cuts, cleverly delayed to have maximum impact in 2027, will add more burden to the health care costs to be born by the State’s. Bottom line, people’s lives will be at risk. The budget cuts to rural hospitals put those most vulnerable for access at risk.
You gentlemen are all conservatives, what happened to concerns over the size of the National Debt? Tariffs are not the answer to any of the budget issues you face, they are simply a tax on Americans. Not one of you is willing to put this issue to a vote so we can see where you stand.
ICE is an abomination as it is currently targeted. You found the money to vastly increase this budget and apparently have no control or interest in how they are abusing the power handed to them.
You were all in the Capitol during the January 6 coup attempt. Jack Smith painted a frightening picture of the involvement of your President and his henchmen. I can understand why you all opposed an open hearing. We are now watching as your party races to “fix” the election midterms. Are you committed to a free and fair election this fall and that the results will be honored?
I have not heard anything from any of you on the Epstein Files. You are all fighting to protect someone? Wonder who that might be!!
I guess it makes political sense for you to stand on the sidelines while your Country is run by Executive Order. Even the laws you pass go ignored by the DOJ. I am embarrassed for each of you and fear that your failure to speak up puts our democracy at risk.
Each of you have served Idaho well for many years, that legacy is at severe risk as you refuse to do the job we elected you to carry out. There is no balance of power today.
Respectfully but disgustedly yours, Mike and Karen Mooney”
Please take a minute to call, email, or write you Congressman or Senator so they know you are engaged and concerned.
The picture is a storm brewing over Brundage mountain and the surrounding area. Meanwhile Boise set a high temperature record of 59 degree in early January and a record low for snowfall over the past 125 years. Climate change is real.
