It was was one of many unfortunate things, no John Lithgow at the rally for No Kings. I generally try to highlight points from an article, movie, song, or my own experience to bring perspective to our world today. I was fortunate to catch Lithgow’s facebook post, he had an acting commitment so he opted to read the poem he wrote 6 years ago called “Trumpty Dumpty wanted a Crown”. It is linked so you can enjoy this great actor express his thoughts on the Orange Wanker. There is also a link that will allow you enjoy “Trumpty Dumpty Wanted a Title”. I love his presentation and the scrolling graphics as Lithgow consider possible Titles for “anus tangerinus.” You will note, orange is a difficult word with which to rhyme but it fits nicely in my favorite names for our internationally despised wanna be King.
Lithgow is an amazing actor with diverse skills evident in his many roles. Remember Dick Solomon, a pompous, egomaniacal physics professor? In Third Rock from the Sun (1996-2001) Dick and his alien family are sent to Earth, to better understand the planet and its human inhabitants. As you may recall, they did not fit in and often were confusing or disruptive. Jane Curtin played Dr. Mary Albright who is often baffled by Dick’s behavior. The high commander is called the Big Giant Head, in one episode their call is put on hold, “your call is answered in the order it was received.” Lithgow has a sense of humor. Curiously, we again have a Big Giant Head in charge, “thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Lithgow was the voice of Master Yoda in the radio adaptations of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Frank Oz was the Jedi in the movies but was not comfortable voicing the role without control of the puppet. It is noteworthy that our current President has not heeded any of the Iconic Yoda wisdom. “Fear is the path to the dark side,” “the greatest teacher, failure is”, “Do. Or do not. There is no try,” and one that has obviously been ignored, “when you look at the dark side, careful you must be. For the dark side looks back.” As the Orange Cockwomble spirals downward, taking our country with him, we may need to heed the inverted words of the Jedi Master, “train yourself to let go of everything you are afraid to lose.” May the force be with us.
Our current situation does feel like an episode the Twilight Zone. Lithgow says one of his favorite roles was playing the air traveler in a l983 remake, the passenger sees the hideous creature on the wing of the airplane. As the plane flies on the creature does his best to destroy an engine and the wing. The original was a 1963 episode where William Shatner played the paranoid passenger. I vividly recall both episodes, our current plight in Iran is much more frightening and certainly not make believe.
Lithgow was the preacher in Footloose who adamantly forbade any dancing. Next up is a commitment to play the beloved Professor Albus Dumbledore in an HBO Harry Potter series. It is an amazing 81 year life and still going strong.
Join me in wishing Clio Thomas Haga happy birthday, she is an April fool’s day child. She is nine year’s old and a joy to all who have the good fortune to know her.
