We have a set of Blink camera’s in our cabin in McCall. You can arm the system so it sets off motion alarms and you can even activate and speak if there is someone on the front porch. This week an alarm went off, triggered by motion inside the cabin. Karen saw the bird wildly trying to escape the sun room. We could not figure out how a fairly large “flicker” might get inside the cabin. Our first thought was that it may have been like the Beatle’s song—“She came in through the bathroom window”. The windows are partially open in the summer with a screen to keep the bugs where they belong. Simple enough, the bird pecked it way through and was trapped. Fortunately our next door neighbor and his family were at their cabin and generously responded to our weird dilemma. They entered the house, located the very agitated bird, opened the sliding door and tried to get it to fly out. Three children and three adults offered their plans to get the bird and we got to listen to it on the speaker phone. It was like an episode of a radio thriller. We all cheered in unison when the bird finally returned to nature after a good 10 minutes of coaxing.
So it turns out that the bird came down the chimney and was able to push open the glass door which swung closed behind her. Karen made a trip to McCall to pick up our grandson and to restore order to the cabin. An agitated bird leaves a significant trail of poop and feathers. The bird also disrupted a very difficult large puzzle by knocking pieces to the floor and rearranging the ones that had been carefully placed. This is a bit off topic but last fall we opened the fireplace and a bat joined us in the cabin. Bats are very difficult to catch for your future knowledge. I am not sure how the bird ‘flu’ into firebox but I am calling an expert to inspect.
In l963 The Trashmen recorded a song that was a combination of The Rivington’s Singles—the noteworthy “Papa-Oom-mow-mow” and “The Bird is the Word” into a song that hit #4 on the Charts. “Surfin Bird”. The phrenetic repetitive words are unfortunately unforgettable. The lead singer is amazing as he emulates a bird during the song. ( Check him out on U tube). Since I am thinking about birds this week and always focused on the Orange Bird Brain I offer this bit of observational wisdom. This is not intended to offend our bird friends who have been unfairly described because of their physically small heads and brains. Bird’s brains “pack an incredibly high density of neurons compared to mammals.” Some birds are very smart. The Wanker says the same words and phrases over and over, much like the lyrics. The speech style, or lack thereof, is referred to as rhythmic repetition, if you say the same thing over and over it sticks in people’s minds. Fake news, it’s a hoax, sad, frankly, corrupt, many people are saying, you know-right, witch hunt, disgrace, bigly, derangement syndrome, we hold all the cards, we will see what happens, ……… Now that I have had time to think about it, I would be glad to listen to “the bird, bird, the bird is the word” over and over again to the beat of the oom-mow-mow. Not having to listen to the lying felon would be a blessing.
Solipsism is the view of theory that the self is all that can be known to exist. Synonyms would include egocentrism, narcissism, and selfhood. I think the dictionary folks missed the boat when they did not put a picture of POTUS as the real life example of the word.
And to breathe a sigh of relief, the Supreme Court upheld the Fourteen Amendment this week in a decision that affirmed that the Tangerine Emperor could not eliminate the foundation of our country by Executive Order. These are very frightening times for our country. I wish each of you a positive July 4th celebration far away from anything political. This is a time to herald an amazing 250 year experiment in a Government for the People.
