Hank and I were doing our first grade home work. What animal has the largest heart? His mother does not count – although accurate, it is a figurative description. The largest animal to ever live on earth is the blue whale, it can be up to 100 feet long, weigh 200 tons and live for up to 100 years. The tongue alone can weigh as much as an elephant and their hearts as much as an automobile. The blue whale is a mammal and can dive to 500 feet to feed – consuming about 4 tons of krill each day. They cruise at 8 miles per hour but can accelerate to over 20 when agitated. The whales are noisy in their own language and can be heard by other blues up to 1000 miles away. A calve spends a year in gestation and is born weighing up to 3 tons. Extensive hunting in the 60s resulted in the slaughter of over 360,000 of these majestic creatures. Under protection since then, they have only moderately recovered with an estimated 25,000 in our oceans today.
The idea of a whopper made me think of the size of the current “big lie”. The election was stolen, Fearless won in a landslide! Trump parlayed this lie into an insurrection aimed at overturning over 200 years of democracy and seizing power for himself. History tells a sobering story about “big lies”. When Hitler rose to power, he created a national sweeping policy to eliminate Jews from the Earth called the “The Final Solution”. To accomplish the goal he and the Nazis orchestrated what they called the “the big lie” where he used the German press to spread lies blaming Jews for all of Germany’s problems. We live to this day with the deadly outcome of that lie.
Should we impeach a person whose leadership approach is based on dangerous untruths and misdirection? Covid is just like the flu, we have it totally under control and the virus will miraculously disappear claimed Fearless. That lie cost thousands of lives in our country. Who can forget the “sharpie” drawn map of Hurricane Dorian’s path that was intended to cover his gaff. It is apparently good to cover a mistake with a lie. The list of lies that include Obama’s place of birth, Mexico will pay for the wall, the size of the China Trade deficit, no knowledge of payment to Stormy Daniels, the unveiling of his health care plan in two weeks, retweeting conspiracy theories, the noise from windmills causes cancer…. Savannah Guthrie got it right during an NBC news town hall meeting with Fearless, when she admonished him “you’re not, like, someone’s crazy uncle who can just retweet whatever.” Retweeting lies cost Fearless his access to Twitter and it should cost him a conviction in this trial.
