Most of us remember President Truman, “the buck stops here”. Truman had that sign on his desk to remind him of his awesome responsibility. The origin of the statement is likely from card players. The players placed a marker, called a “buck” in front of the person who was the dealer. The marker was passed to the next player along with the responsibility of dealing. This “passing the buck” became synonymous for passing on an obligation or decision. President Truman made the most controversial decision perhaps in the history of the world when he ordered the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. An invasion of Japan would have significantly prolonged the war and at a projected loss of 500,000 American lives and significant number of Japanese troops and civilians.

The country Truman was protecting is under attack from within, built on a dream and surviving for multiple centuries, the United States must find the strength to protect voting rights and assure inclusion and equality for our citizens. I do not see a secret weapon that can be employed, it is going to take a co ordinated effort from the many of us who understand the importance of our democracy.

McCall has been over run with deer. The buck in my backyard is foraging in our huckleberry patch and eating my prized Mountain Ash tree, just as nature intended. He has been joined lately by a black bear who unfortunately prefers to tip over garbage cans for his food source. We are often visited by raccoons, who feed themselves and a fox family—yep- fed by the neighbors. Many residents have taken to feeding the deer, especially in the winter and many of them roam the streets and put themselves at risk on the roadways. The City Council has decided they need an ordinance that prohibits feeding the deer and could include a plan to round up and relocate those beautiful creatures. Based on the recent actions of many Americans when it comes to masks and vaccination, I am betting the Police chief will be busy issuing “feeding” citations.

No buck passing in Greenland as they have announced plans to suspend all future oil exploration in its territory. “As a society, we must dare to stop and ask ourselves why we want to exploit a resource” said Greenlands Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, Mineral Resources and Gender Equity.

Thanks to each of you who dare to challenge the dangerous and unfounded conspiracy theories that threaten the future of our children and planet.
