I enjoy a routine, each morning at six, Alexa wakes me up. Around 620, the dog and I walk up the street several blocks. MMMa wears a lighted collar and I have plenty of doggie bags and a flash light.  Arriving back home, I head to the basement to get my stretching and yoga light exercise before coffee.  This week my first step downstairs was very squishy. Lots of water seeping slowly across the basement. I tried to find the source of the water, turned things off— but it kept flowing. Out of the tub drain and the floor drain. So who do you call? The water heater was not leaking, which had happened once before, the condensation line on the furnace does not put out that much water. I called a Restoration company, our HVAC service and a plumber. Turns out my first call should have been to sewer line service. All of the water from showers, toilets, laundry and sinks was no longer making it to the city sewer. The drain line was put in place 43 years ago and the plastic line has been breached by root systems.  This is a very inconvenient predicament.

It obviously could be worse and so many things happening today make this issue pale by comparison.

Last summer Barb Z, our family hair professional was telling me about a similar water situation she and her family experienced. They had what they thought was coverage for and it turned out that the provider of remediation was not price competitive or responsive. It was just a coincidence that we had the same provider. Barb told me her home insurance company offered better coverage at a lower annual rate.  She motivated me to call my insurance company and add sewer and water line back up and additional protection seepage and drainage for our Boise home.  Most standard home coverage does not cover these items. We have not seen all the costs to remediate our little problem but our out of pocket will be mitigated because of Barb and our excellent Agent.  I tell you this story because I am now convinced that will happen to you one day. Talk to your trusted insurance advisor.

The Idaho House passed the Governor’s launch bill by a very narrow margin. The bill provides $8500 for graduating high school students to go on to any Idaho higher education or to trade school.  The Education Saving Account—a voucher passed the Senate Education committee in spite of significant testimony against it. One Republican voted against advancing the bill because of the total lack of accountability included in the proposed legislation.  Please let your Senator know how you feel about taking money away from our already underfunded public school system as well as your support for the Launch legislation.  Idaho must invest in our high school seniors as they go on to develop the skills needed for tomorrows jobs.

Enjoy the long week end.  Mike
