I did not want to start watching Ted Lasso, the premise seemed off.  Now that I hear this may be the last season, I am so sad. This week the club played a friendly in Amsterdam. They lost, which is not that unusual. Coach Lasso declared a no curfew night and only told the team to be careful. Spoiler alert if you have not watched this episode yet.

The multiple story lines that went through the night were all intriguing. The owner, a striking person with a radiant smile falls in the canal and is rescued by a retired military person. The tension and anticipation of what might happen was very well played. The owner’s General Manager takes the equipment boy to the red light district to make him a man.  Wrong, this is not about sex, it is about visiting the site of the father of jazz and listening to an amazing trio. There is a story about the heartbreak around keeping secrets about an alternative life style. The old soccer star coach is mentoring a great player to meet his potential and ends up learning to ride a bike. The team is trying to build a winning rapport and spends hours debating what activity they should pursue.  You might be surprised that a sex show and a wild party lost out to another activity.

Ted is talked into taking a drug that will enhance his creativity and introspection. His mind journey is interesting as he sees art in a  new way and has an out of body experience sitting in a  crazy themed hamburger joint.  Ted and his father loved the Chicago Bulls and the triangle offense that was their signature.  I am guessing we will see the triangle translated to soccer in an upcoming episode.

The team gathers on the bus in the morning and you can tell the mood is great as the Boss starts singing, Every Little thing is going to be all right. The whole team joins her.  All that in 30 minutes I think, it could be an hour, that in itself is amazing.

Why am I telling you about Ted Lasso? For an ephemeral moment  it took my mind off the news of the week. Random gun violence against a teen birthday party, a brother knocking on the wrong door to pick up his sibling, two cheerleaders shot for no apparent reason, a girl shot for driving into the wrong drive way, so disheartening.  When will our country take action?

I was so glad to see FOX and friends settle for $787.5 million, it is not the last big check they will write. Good to know there is accountability for exploiting lies and misinformation for the corporate good. It would have fun to watch Tucker Carlson squirm on the witness stand, oh well.

The pictures of the girls at the San Diego zoo in full face paint will make you smile.

Enjoy the week end.  Mike
