Egg prices are way up under the current administration and projected to go up another 20% this year. WTF, I thought a slim majority elected the OW because of inflation concerns. The egg industry has lost over 8% of its flock due to bird flu contagions. Exit World Health Organization so that we are alone in the battle with potential pandemics. Compensate by appointing a vaccine denier, conspiracy theorist, raw milk booster—basically dangerous goof ball to run our critical National Health organization. Eliminate MLK national recognition, Juneteenth, Black history month, Federal Education system, Birthright citizenship, and blame the recent air disaster on diversity hires. The Wanker and his minions are “flooding the zone” with dramatic Executive Orders, believing that so many awful things unfolding at once American’s will be reduced to apathy or acceptance.
This is not a new playbook, a fellow rabble rouser reminded me. Hitler returned to power in 1930 on a campaign of “draining the….. swamp.” He proclaimed a mandate and laid out his plans to expunge key government officials and filling positions with loyalists. To make good on his promises, he would increase military spending, withdraw from international treaties, purge the country of foreigners who are “poisoning” the blood of the nation and exact revenge on his political opponents. He then granted amnesty to those convicted of crimes…… perpetrated “in the battle for national renewal.” I was directed to a Timothy Ryback book titled “How Hitler Dismantled Democracy in 53 days.” Musk’s recent salute and his support for the German right wing efforts are not likely a coincidence.
So how does freezing all funding for projects, nearly 3 Trillion $ fit into a plan to help America? Flooding the zone is aided by chaos and this ridiculous order was intended to accomplish that goal. Add to that sending 2 million government workers an early retirement pronouncement and the right wing folks are ahead of the l930 schedule to unwind 250 years of Democracy. My friend admitted this sequel to history is truly scary. Please do not get lulled to sleep, you will not enjoy living in an authoritarian dictatorship.
The picture seemed appropriate to this week’s discussion. From the top of Brundage mountain you can see that the main lake is frozen. It normally would be white but the sudden cold temperatures and no recent moisture turned the lake into a beautiful ice skating rink. There were many folks out skating, playing hockey, fishing, or sliding along in their winter boots.
My girls learned to skate on the Lake. I always pulled an inner tube in case we fell through the ice. Our old neighbor, Ernie grew up in Minnesota skating on the lakes and he was our safety person, He skated far out with his hockey stick. Why the hockey stick Ernie? If you fall through you use the stick to span the hole so you can pull yourself out. One other tip, if you fall through the ice you put your back against one side of the hole and push yourself onto the ice with both feet against the other side of the hole. Sure enough, an ATV broke through the ice last week, passengers were safe, but the lake ice proved to be unpredictable.
There are obvious analogies, as our country is skating on thin ice, we must beware of the dangers. Following two weeks of no moisture our next storm is an atmospheric river. Ask the folks in Florida how they liked the snow storms? Extreme weather is the new normal. Under the OW there may be no FEMA or federal force to assist let alone pay the costs. The proposed energy policy will accelerate the crisis we already face. Buckle up, it is going to be a bumpy ride.
