There is likely some bit of luck in most successful outcomes.  I have often heard that the stars have aligned to make something positive happen.  I believe that those who work diligently and wisely for a worthy cause seem to be luckier than those who just buy a ticket.  Put another way – hope is not a strategy. The YMCA of the Treasure Valley is preparing to build a new facility on over 20 acres of donated ground south of the freeway in Meridian. There is no doubt that the Y delivers great value and has a proven record of meeting the needs of our community.  The Meridian project is a giant step forward in community collaboration. This project will include a new elementary school,  a new library, a wellness and nurses component that will be supported by St. Lukes, a 10 acre park built by the City, an aquatics center in the eventual plan, early childhood education and a Y.  The collaboration will allow the school, library and Y to share facilities like classrooms and gymnasiums to maximize their utility.  This project takes alignment to new heights.

So many worthy causes – the Y is competing for private funds to build and endow their part of the collaboration.  The Y is “lucky” at this capital raising business having built multiple facilities including the Camp at Horse Thief Reservoir.  They are lucky because their outcomes are predictable and impressive.  In mid July the Y will benefit from the world premiere of the new Jason Bourne movie here in Idaho and the community will have a chance to meet the Star – Matt Damon along with our own Frank Marshall. Hats off to the Y and their past and current leadership. I believe they are better off being good than lucky, but what a winning collaboration.

I have not updated you on Brother Jeff for a few weeks and I know you will be glad to know he continues to gain ground in his recovery.  Jeff is retired from Westinghouse but re-employed himself in his automotive shop built below his home.  As “luck” would have it, his occupational therapist is a young professional who knows her way around tools and cars. Jeff is a lucky person for the care givers and support group who are working through his rehabilitation.

“The only good luck many great men ever had was being born with the ability and determination to overcome bad luck.” Channing Pollock. It also seems possible on a more whimsical note “the hard work puts you where the good luck can find you.” Can you believe there are over 44,700 quotes about the stars aligning – some of them are even meaningful.  In spite of my words, I thank my lucky stars often.

Enjoy the week end.  Mike
