May Fourth is a day to remember. My daughter Megan gave birth to Hank’s Sister — Margie arrived at 4:44. Megan drove herself to the hospital and an hour and fifteen minutes later she delivered a very healthy seven pound one ounce, twenty inch child. Mom is doing well. Hank has named his new sister Izzy Margie Blue, for a favorite character in Jake and the Neverland Pirates and his most favorite color. Hank is in for a few changes in his life as he passes from the sole focus of his families attention to Big Brother status. I know there is enough love to go around. Join me in congratulating Megan and Brian and wishing them well in the land of two children and a dog!
At almost the same time, my dear Brother Bob passed away. Bob was the oldest of five boys and all of us boys looked up to him. Like most first children he set a difficult standard to follow. Bob was smart, he earned his EE degree and eventually left a prominent local Engineering firm to start his own consulting firm. Bob liked projects and the more complex the better. Bob served his community as a Junior Golf leader and later a rules official and was a long time and valued member of the Bogus Basin Board, much of the credit for the not for profit status that changed the future of the ski area is paid to his leadership. A great family, many friends, a successful career, a loyal husband to Jeanie, and arguably the best golf swing in a very golf centric family. Bob was an eternal optimist and often would tell us in the most dire circumstances that these “insurmountable opportunities” made life worth living. We will miss Bob and I regret that Margie did not get to meet him.
The Lion King theme song opens In the language of the Zulu people spoken by 95% of South Africa. I like the lyrics as one life ends and another begins.
From the day we arrive on the planet
And, blinking, step into the sun
There’s more to see than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done
There’s far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high
Through the Saphire Sky
Keeps great and small on the endless round
It’s the circle of life………
Enjoy each day and know your legacy is likely in the friends and family who will remember you long after your gone.
