Some weeks leave me with too much to consider and others without stimulating observations or events. I do make an effort to stay out of politics and certainly we have all heard too much about the current President. I do wonder what would inspire Kim Jong-Un’s hair style or his admiration of Dennis Rodman. I just watched a bit of the debate between the State of Idaho Treasurer candidates, I have to say that Tom Kealey is an extremely well qualified person and I thank him for running for Public office. Also, kudos to Mayor Bieter and the City of Boise for renaming Capitol Park in recognition of the life and legacy of Cecil D. Andrus. The celebration is planned for May 9th across from the Capitol, bring the kids and grandchildren and join the Andrus Family for the celebration.
For the past six years the State of Idaho has considered, debated and rejected all attempts to provide health coverage for those in the gap. Idaho may well see a ballot initiative in November to provide Medicaid coverage to those estimated 51,000 to 78,000 in the gap. As an example, a family of four whose income is more than $5,268 does not qualify for Medicaid and they do not qualify for State Exchange support if they make less than $24,600. Wellness is greatly improved when our citizens have access to affordable and timely medical evaluation and treatment. Groups like Close the Gap including Idaho Voices for Children have worked diligently to educate Idahoans and the latest surveys show 76% of us support providing coverage. The ballot process requires validated signatures totaling 56,192 or 6% of the registered voters in the last general election. To be on the ballot in November the signature deadline is April 30. This sounds political but I am hoping you will consider signing the petition to give Idaho a chance to finally get this right.
It is time to celebrate Megan’s birthday. Nothing is more rewarding than watching your children grow up, build a career, a family, and a add a positive dimension to our world. Well done Megan.
The world lost an exceptional role model this week—Barbara Bush. Her advice is timeless “at the end of your life, you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more Verdict or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child or a parent.”
