I am always searching for something uplifting in a world filled with political and social challenges. Often the “thing a ma bob that does the job” is not so far away.

I drive the grand girls to summer camp each morning. There are days when they are so cute and kind to each other—like Yesterday, other days they act like sisters, which they are not. So I got them started singing a classic summer time song, not Paul Revere and Raider’s, “Kicks” or The Beach Boys, “Good Vibrations.”

We now know the full lyrics of Alan Sherman’s classic, “Hello Mudduh, Hello Fadduh”.  It is a letter written from camp on the first day of the adventure. Things appear to be going poorly as the boy recounts in simple rhymes, ….”I went hiking with Joe Spivey, he developed poison ivy.. no, I don’t want this should scare ya, but my bunk mate has malaria..and you remember Jeffrey Hardy, they’re about to organize a searching party. It goes on a bit longer until the sun comes out and he asks his parent to disregard this letter.”  Good times in the golf cart and a respite from the real world.

I obviously hold the Orange Wanker in the lowest possible regard. If you have a moment I highly recommend the Randy Rainbow satirical music Parody, “Forty-Five!” The lyrics are sung to the Dolly Parton music from “9-5.” It will make you laugh as well as admire a very talented performer. I agree, the Gobshite should be #47, only if that is his cell number at Rikers Island.

The Canadian Lynx is an endangered species.  It is a secretive animal with thick fur, big paws, an expressive face that could be confused for a house pet—it relies on high elevation habitat with cold snowy conditions to have a competitive advantage. No surprise, global warming and deforestation are reducing its habitat. The Lynx is not alone, ask the humans from Texas all the way to Maine if it is hotter than normal? This early summer time “heat dome” may be the new normal. The future of our planet is in jeopardy. The Science predicted this, our failure to address carbon and methane emissions in our own country and the world is not on track to significantly reduce emissions by 2050.

There is way too much political attention given to social and religious agenda’s. Wake up folks, the candidates should be focused on the future viability of the planet for our children. Building a wall may be a good idea to keep the ocean at bay for a time.

Seems like the song of this summer should be the classic from the Lovin Spoonful, “Summer in the City”.  “Hot town summer in the city….all around people looking half dead walking on a sidewalk hotter than a match head.”  Let’s refocus on the things that are critical to the future. Don’t stop believing in our country.  Mike
